
| 017: You'd do what? "I'm about to lose it with this job, going to school, my kids, and everything." A co-worker responds, "If I were you, I'd„m." The exact advice doesn't matter, since the co-worker likely wouldn't appreciate or follow the same advice anyway, especially if it came from someone else. Better would have been, "That's rough. How can I help?" It's not easy to resist the temptation to give unwanted advice for other people's problems; but when fellow travelers share their troubles, the old pros resist the temptation, offer a little empathy, and follow that up with tangible help on the high road. |
