How To Treat Families:

Most participants agreed that parents who abuse or neglect their children should receive mental health counseling, parent education, and mentoring by other parents.

·       They probably don't know how to be a parent.

·       They weren't raised the right way; they don't know any different.

However, participants believed that some set of punishments should be given parents who sexually abuse their children. Others felt that the threat or the actuality of having a child removed is sufficient punishment for a parent. If the root cause is homelessness or hunger, then sending them to a parenting class probably is not going to be helpful.
